Election history:

John Paul Phelan was elected to Kilkenny County Council on his first attempt in June 1999. He served two terms in the Seanad, and has been a TD for Carlow-Kilkenny since 2011. He served as Minister of State for Local Government and Electoral Reform since 2017

Priorities:

  1. Deliver a Technological University of the South East – a key economic driver. Far too many bright young people leave this area and never return.
  2. Support and nurture small businesses and rural enterprises by creating a more equal tax environment for the self employed in SMEs, farming and food
  3. Restore confidence in the regional economy and entice emigrants home by continuing my work to attract more high quality, sustainable jobs here.
