Incumbent :

Main message to voters:

Fianna Fáil is committed to a fair recovery for the entire country, with a balanced taxation system that rewards work and funds essential public services. Rural communities have been abandoned by this Government, and we are fighting to protect the services and facilities that rural Ireland needs.

Election history:

First elected in 2007, and re-elected at each general election since then. Michael comes from a farming background and is a former chairperson of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Science. He is the current Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Communications, Energy and Natural Resources.

Priorities:

  1. Reversing the shameful cuts to to supports for people with disabilities, and providing proper funding for early intervention services for children
  2. Immediate action on the housing crisis - tackling high rents, lack of social housing, and the huge increases in the cost of residential construction
  3. Job Creation - greater focus on foreign direct investment in regional towns, revamp the commercial rates system, and encouraging start-up enterprises
