Workers Party
Party 15

Incumbent : No

Main message to voters:

I believe it is possible to build an Ireland for the majority, not the elite. The Workers Party offers a socialist alternative to the boom/bust that has damaged Ireland, and combines resistance to water and home charges & austerity, with solid socialist policies for a more equal & democratic Ireland

Election history:

Elected as a Workers' Party member of Cork City Council in 2009 and re-elected in 2014. Served previous term on council in 1980s. Have been active in a broad range of campaigns over many years. Jailed in 1990 for opposition to local service charges.

Priorities:

  1. A recovery for workers. Living-wage jobs through state investment; affordable public childcare system; improve workers’ rights; scrap the water tax.
  2. Solve the housing crisis. Build public housing; introduce rent controls and security of tenure; control the price of land; tax dereliction/vacancy.
  3. Repeal the 8th Amendment. Free, safe, legal access to abortion. Build a secular, democratic Ireland and remove all religious influence over the State
