Main message to voters:

I am proud to represent the constituency of Limerick City, giving a voice to the people of Limerick I believe passionately in power of education to transform people’s lives. Together with my Labour colleagues I am working to build a fairer, more tolerant, more equal Ireland.

Election history:

Appointed Minister for Education and Skills, July 2014. Former Minister for Housing and Planning, and Minister for Trade & Development. Elected to Dáil Éireann in 1998, 2002, 2007 and 2011 Elected to Limerick City Council 1985 Mayor of Limerick 1993/1994

Priorities:

  1. We can now plan for a future focused on job creation, and enhanced public services. That’s the future I want to see for Limerick and Ireland.
  2. As our economy recovers I believe that we need to see an educational dividend. It is the best investment a country can make in its future.
